Who we are, what we do
The Houston SPCA, founded in 1924, is Houston’s first and largest animal protection organization and shelter. Our mission is to promote commitment to and respect for all animals and free them from suffering, abuse and exploitation.
We are a private, nonprofit charity, not affiliated with any other SPCA. We receive no government funding or assistance from other animal organizations, relying solely on donations from businesses, grants and animal lovers to continue our work.
Our programs and services include:
Sheltering and admissions
24-hour injured animal rescue ambulance
Programs for kids
Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine partnership
The Wildlife Center of Texas
