Earlier this week,
the Houston SPCA, working at the request of the Brazoria County Sherriff’s
Office, discovered twelve dead dogs, rabbits and chickens and over 40 live
animals in deplorable conditions without adequate food and water and living
amid debris and filth.
The Houston SPCA rescued 19 goats, 2 rabbits, 1
guinea hen, 3 boars, 1 sow, 4 Barbado sheep, 9 hens, 2 dogs, and 3 ducks from
the property in Brazoria County. The scene was discovered when a Brazoria
County Police Officer responded to the location to check on a report of loose
livestock in the road. Law enforcement officials secured a warrant and the
Houston SPCA assisted in the rescue and removal of the animals from the
property.
They were transported to the shelter where they received
medical evaluations and treatment from the Houston SPCA veterinary team.
Permanent custody of the animals will be determined by a Brazoria County Judge.
