Animal Behavior Supervisor The Houston SPCA is currently seeking an Animal Behavior Supervisor to be responsible for the daily functions and success of the Animal Behavior Program. The main focus of this position is to make recommendations for appropriate placement or euthanasia based on assessment results, as well as to provide leadership for training and enrichment programs. This individual will be involved in policy development and decision making related to animal behavior; while providing information, consultation and/or training to staff, volunteers, adopters and the public. Qualified applicants will possess knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed. Animal welfare experience is preferred although not required.
Animal Care Department Openings Individuals must be dedicated and hardworking with an interest in animal welfare. This is a fulltime position that requires excellent customer service and the ability to work with all kinds of animals. Previous animal care experience preferred, but not required. Animal Care Team Member - BARN The Houston SPCA seeks experienced candidates to join our BARN staff. Candidates must have previous experience working with Horses and Farm Animals. May also be asked to work with small animals. Candidates will need to be able to able to lift 70 pounds (hay bales, grain bags) daily to supply care for up to 100 horses and farm animals. BARN staff will maintain facilities (stall/paddock mucking), feed and groom animals, provide customer service to potential adopters by communicating in a professional manner and be able to multi-task daily. Animal Cruelty Investigator The Houston SPCA is currently seeking candidates for the position of Animal Cruelty Investigator. This qualified individual will respond to calls involving suspected and known cases of animals being treated inhumanely within Harris County and the 7 surrounding counties. The basic schedule of an Animal Cruelty Investigator is during the day; however, a weekly on call rotation is established that may warrant a response during the evening or night. The Animal Cruelty Investigator also assists the Houston SPCA in running animal rescue calls when needed. Responding to such calls could include any or all of the following: Investigating cases of animal cruelty independently in areas of diverse socio and economic backgrounds. Must be able to maintain a productive investigative case load insuring that all reports are investigated in a timely manner and maintain accurate case records. The Animal Cruelty Investigator will take a leading role in a investigation in a effort to discover, document, collect, compile and prepare evidence for use in but civil and criminal court cases. The Animal Cruelty Investigator will work with governmental authorities in enforcing Texas laws related to animals by providing animal cruelty investigations, testimony within the judicial system and educating the public about animal cruelty and the laws that govern their treatment. The Animal Cruelty Investigator also assists injured animals in the field; removing injured animals from communities to promote a safe environment for the public; transporting injured animals to the Houston SPCA to house them in a safe and secure environment to promote animal health and welfare. Client Care Manager The Houston SPCA is seeking candidates for a management position in support of its mission to promote commitment to and respect for all animals and free them from suffering, abuse and exploitation. Successful candidates will have experience managing client relations in a fast paced, customer driven environment. Position requires the ability to manage multiple priorities, lead, develop and motivate a diverse staff, build teams and resolve conflict. Strong computer skills, phone skills, organizational skills and time management are a must. Previous experience working in animal welfare is desired, but not required. Position is full time, requiring weekend work. Position reports to the Vice President of Animal Welfare. Salary is commensurate with experience. Major Gifts Officer The Houston SPCA is seeking a Major Gifts Officer to be responsible for identifying, cultivating and closing major and planned gifts which include support for endowment, facilities, and program development. Strong communication, organizational, and supervisory skills, along with good understanding of legal and financial issues related to major and planned gifts is necessary. Works closely with the Vice President of Community Outreach & Development to inspire and execute all aspects of campaign planning, implementation, solicitation, and donor recognition. Helps ensure the flow of funds permit achieving the mission and that these funds reflect needs and future potential; Works closely with the Community Outreach & Development team on fundraising and special projects. Staff Veterinarian Houston SPCA seeks experienced, energetic Texas-licensed DVM to join three doctor team. We provide an interesting and varied caseload. Heavy surgery, evaluation and treatment of animals from cruelty cases and support of overall health program for shelter animals. Veterinary Technician The Houston SPCA is currently seeking a full-time Veterinary Technician to work in both our Admissions Clinic and Surgery Suite. This successful candidate will be able to administer vaccinations and medication, draw blood, perform general physical examinations on all animals entering the facility, perform IV, IM and SC injections and intubate animals of all sizes. Candidate must have knowledge of general anesthesia techniques and safety, animal handling and restraint and basic knowledge of surgery and recovery. This position will require general cleaning, autoclaving and wrapping instruments and packs. All candidates must have basic computer skills. Applicant must have strong communication, organizational skills, be self-confident, motivated, and have the ability to interact effectively with a diverse group of veterinary professionals and other staff members in a respectful manner; as well as interacting professionally and compassionately with the general public. Licensed technicians are preferred, but consideration will be given to experienced, unlicensed technicians. Euthanasia is a required part of the job and any candidate will need to be euthanasia certified within four months of hire.
