Have you lost or found a pet?
The Houston SPCA is committed to helping reunite families with their lost pets. We encourage you to post a lost or found ad on our Lost & Found ePole. Simply click on a one of the links below and complete the step-by-step process to submit information and an optional photo about a lost or found pet.
It is very important that you fill out the forms completely and (this is very important) be sure to include a way for people to contact you. Failure to do so may result in your posting being delayed. If no contact information is provided, we will use the e-mail address you provide when creating the report. You should also include as much information as possible including the location of the lost/found pet.
We also have a feature that allows people to share your posting on
various social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and others.
We encourage you to use this feature to help spread the word.
Please note that the animals listed below on this page are NOT at the Houston SPCA. Identification of your lost pet cannot be made over the phone. You must visit the shelter. Please bring proof of ownership (veterinary records, photos, microchip information, etc.). We suggest that you visit our shelter at least every other day to look for your lost pet in person.

Eight Steps to Finding Your Pet
In the event of losing your pet, The Houston SPCA recommends that you vigorously pursue the following resources:
1. Contact your local Animal Protection and Animal Control Agencies immediately. Note: If giving a report by phone be prepared to give a detailed physical description. It is always best to come view the animals in person and if possible, leave a photograph with the agencies.

2. Place an ad in the lost and found section of the local newspapers: Houston Chronicle Classifieds:

3. Contact surrounding veterinary clinics
4. Make door to door inquiries in immediate and surrounding neighborhoods.
5. Make flyers using a clear photograph and detailed description of your pet for placement in all locations of inquiry.
6.Update your voicemail to make sure callers hear a message with details about your pet’s situation and your cell phone number. If someone finds your pet, you want them to be able to find you!
7. For a cat, set a humane cat trap. A frightened cat’s instinct is to hide in silence. Traps can be rented from your local animal control agency.
8. Miscellaneous tips for finding your pet:
- Most "lost" cats tend to stay in the general vicinity from which they disappeared. It is rare that they would wander out of the immediate neighborhood, unless perhaps, they were recently moved. Be patient and creative in your search.
- A "lost" dog will tend to travel into the oncoming wind. This should be your first direction of search.
After you find your pet, report back to all the facilities where you left a report. This reduces existing paperwork and increases the agencies' ability to match other lost pets with their owners. Also, be sure to take down any old flyers or posters in your neighborhood. Spay or neuter your pet. This will help alleviate your pet's desire to roam and has many other benefits.
