Louisiana Pets Arrive at Houston SPCA Saturday Morning Before Ida Hits Louisiana

Some Will Be Ready For Adoption; Others Will Head to Austin and San Antonio

The Houston SPCA took in 138 dogs, cats and kittens from Louisiana shelters Saturday morning including Louisiana SPCA, Calcasieu Parish Animal Shelter, Plaquemine Parish Animal Shelter and Lafayette Animal Care and Control Center to get them out of harm’s way. The pets, 98 cats and kittens as well as 40 dogs, will receive individualized veterinary exams before Houston SPCA’s ERTs take some of those pets to Austin and San Antonio animal shelters. Louisiana storm victims will be available for adoption at the Houston SPCA beginning Monday, August 30 from noon to 7 p.m. The National Hurricane Center predicts a Category 3 hurricane will make landfall along Louisiana’s coast late Sunday evening.
