Pets for the Elderly Foundation

The Foundation will support Houston SPCA and BakerRipley’s new Pets for Seniors Program in 2021.

Pets for the Elderly Foundation’s mission is to provide companionship to senior individuals through pet ownership while saving the lives of companion animals in shelters. Their research shows the most serious disease for older persons is not cancer or heart disease – it is loneliness.

The Foundation’s generous $5,000 gift will support adoption and retention services for Houston SPCA and BakerRipley’s Pets for Seniors program. Due to COVID-19, people over 60 have suffered increased social isolation and loneliness. Our program provides virtual adoption consultations, matches homebound seniors with a cat or kitten, then delivers start-up supplies like kitty litter and quality nutrition thanks to Hill’s Science Diet, with the goal to reduce depression and increase physical and mental activity with the adopter.
